Our story!

For several years now I have had the urge to travel which has been a dream of mine before marriage and children. My husband was never keen on the idea until one afternoon in 2016 he said, "let's do this!" The next day I began to sell, donate and give away items from my home. He was a bit shocked when he got home from work. I immediately called a realtor and our home sold within 24 hours for more than we were asking. I had sold, donated and given away EVERYTHING so that the day we moved we didn't even need a truck. We were able to drive away with everything we had left in both our vehicles. We moved to a smaller place directly across from the beach to enjoy the sunrise and sunsets for the following year before taking off to travel full time!

A Day in Malaga for Us!

I grew up in Malaga when I was a kid and I still like to do the things I did with my parents back then. Usually we begin with lunch at La Sole del Pimpi  https://maps.app.goo.gl/TCvWQmMzaZ7BHc9D6?g_st=ipc and sit at a table with the view of both the Roman Theater built early in the first century AD https://maps.app.goo.gl/MhYzr2ujyu6ZYoYV8?g_st=ipc and the Muslim fortress Alcazaba built in the 11th century https://maps.app.goo.gl/ebfcekGYT9LejTXR9?g_st=ipc. It’s a lot of history with a phenomenal view during lunch. We always order Tapas with Tinto Verano which is actually the drink most popular in Spain, not Sangria which is typically a tourist drink. This drink is made with wine and a lemon flavored soda.  The waiter will sometimes ask which flavor you prefer, plain or lemon, and lemon is basically Sprite. I always order for everyone my favorite dishes growing up so they can experience many flavors. A plate of each for everyone to share: -Russian Salad- -Croquettes (they usually offer a plate of mixed meat or fish)- -Gambas Al Ajillo- -Rabo de Toro or Iberian ham-  These are specialties of Spain!

Dessert we save for another place in Malaga. When leaving the restaurant be sure to go through the back of the restaurant away from the theater to see the Cathedral https://maps.app.goo.gl/4znRQCccjkfDYjKi9?g_st=ipc Then head towards the main area where the cafe is and all the shops Lepanto Cafe https://maps.app.goo.gl/4F8hyBDCzjTEbcbj6?g_st=ipc. They have coffee and all kinds of pastries and desserts to choose from. When leaving the cafe walk to Plaza de la Constitucion https://maps.app.goo.gl/aPEh7bxihhqjTarv6?g_st=ipcwhich is another area with great architecture, shops, and cafes. Picasso’s home is nearby if you want to see where he lived. https://maps.app.goo.gl/JZ1hSK9bzoQrmHKL6?g_st=ipc then back to the Plaza de la Constitution we walk to the next street called Calle Nueva headed to the port to watch the sunset. The port has more shops and restaurants to choose from and outdoor seating to see the sun go down and to see the lighthouse. https://maps.app.goo.gl/qHrcQH4coZnTFrTHA?g_st=ipc

We don’t usually show up before lunch in Malaga but if you wanted to go early then I recommend breakfast at https://maps.app.goo.gl/5PEM19Q3btJyTDLm8?g_st=ipc a hotel on a hill with a spectacular view of Malaga that has a cafe. There is also a walk through the Muslim fortress if you want some outdoor exercise nearby as well. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Gf7pmnTWCrqMF1kj6?g_st=ipc.  Another early day experience is the old market in the city. https://maps.app.goo.gl/UtxVhzTkwoVcgYEZA?g_st=ipc We don’t buy tickets to any of these things because most places you can walk in anyways and see or you can decide when you get there what you would like to see.

If you want to see a Flamenco show while you are in Malaga, I recommend Algeria Flamenco y Gastronomia https://maps.app.goo.gl/j9YRnrQCw8TCw3fe7?g_st=ipcIt is located very near the port. They serve dinner and a flamenco show. It’s very reasonably priced and the food is excellent!
